Alanis Obomsawin
Activist and performer Alanis Obomsawin performed during one of the evening concerts at the 1970 Mariposa Festival on Toronto Island.
Obomsawin was intergral in the organization and recruitment of First Nations and Inuit artists and performers from across the country who participated in special events at the festival, usually centred around a Native Area stage which in addition to storytelling and musical performances, also featured demonstrations of traditional crafts including beadwork, silversmithing and canoe building.
