Description
Item consists of a recording of a radio broadcast of the opening ceremonies of the first Mariposa Folk Festival on August 18, 1961. Begins with an introduction by master of ceremonies Pete McGarvey of the mayor of Orillia, George McLean who is escorted to the stage by a Scottish piper. McLean speaks about the history of the Orillia and then invites Ruth Jones and Dr. Casey Jones to the stage to cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the festival. The Scottish piper concludes the ribbon cutting with another tune. The recording ends with a sign off by reporter Jack Allen.
