Improvised lyrics workshop - Mariposa Folk Festival - 22 June 1974

Recording of a workshop titled "Improvising Lyrics" featuring David Amram, Steve Goodman and Charlie Chin (it is unclear if Chin actually participated). Begins with Amram beginning with prompts of themes or subjects or objects from the audience. Following Amram, Goodman improvises a song based on the prompts "baseball", "aardvark" (Goodman later uses the term armadillo), "toothpaste" and "prunes". Both Amram and Goodman then improvise a song based on a "Moby Dick".

This workshop recording has been extracted from an audio reel containing three hours of recorded performances from Area 5 of the 1974 Mariposa Folk Festival from 22 June 1974.
