In 1986, the Movimento Democrático Português of Montreal and the Portuguese Canadian Democratic Association (PCDA) of Toronto hosted the communist singer-songwriter José Mário Branco, who played two shows in those cities. After playing in Montreal, on March 29, Branco performed at the PCDA's 27th anniversary celebrations.
